How to Swim [Part 3]
In the first part I explained my system of the Three Simple Steps of Swimming. https://polyinnovator.medium.com/how-to-swim-part-1-cab988d99749
In the second part I explained the power of NOT breathing, and how that will help you swim better and for longer. https://medium.com/@polyinnovator/how-to-swim-part-2-ec62d2b01933
In this post however I’ll explain in a more broad view why swimming is important, how to go about doing it, and what it really is.
What is Swimming?
Swimming is an artform unlike any other, and an exercise that can’t be topped. Even dancing or sex can get close to how much of a full body workout, that swimming is for you. However swimming will hit even more muscles, more cardio, and even your discipline in your brain.
It is a movement to traverse the aquatic domain, and our main form for doing so. The other ways like doggy paddle or boat, are just so much different that they can’t even really be compared.
Why you need to learn to Swim
It is a basic human skill we need in order to survive. Even if you don’t live by an ocean or a large body of water, there is no reason as to why you can’t learn it. With pools, lakes, creeks, and more; There are a plethora of opportunities to gain this massive skill.
It will make you feel more fit, it will make you feel far more relaxed around large bodies of water, and what if a loved one was drowning? You would need that skill to save them.
Also as monumental as it might seem to some people, it is honestly a really simple thing to learn. I’ve been teaching it for about a decade, and if you break it down enough it is just like putting together a cake. You follow one step after the other.
How to go about Learning
If you want to learn then it is best to physically be there and practice, if you want to learn beforehand however you can read or watch online.
I’m not a fan of a lot of the videos out there, as the quality is not superb. Oftentimes too they spout off misinformation, or information catered specifically to swim competitions. Which for most people isn’t going to help them. How you swim to maximize your speed down to the last percentage, is more different than you would realize for the average person.
In fact it is a lot more simple to learn frontcrawl (freestyle) if you just take a basic approach to the hydrodynamics in the first place.
Why I made this 3–Part Series
I started teaching people how to swim when I was only a teenager, and I fell in love with it. I have been doing it ever since, and have learned boundless ways of explaining various parts of the form.
In doing so have created systems to easily convey certain topics, and what are swim lessons if not information dumps before deliberate practice? If I can give you the information prior to you going into the water, then you’ll feel more comfortable, and you can focus on purely practicing in the pool.
I create a weekly newsletter series, sharing my best tips, unique point of view, and honestly access to me if you have questions. All you gotta do is sign up for the Free Newsletter:
